Is Jagua Safe to Use?

Jagua products by Jagua Henna are natural, cosmetic-compliant, and safe for most people. Made from the unripe fruit of the Genipa Americana tree, Jagua provides a dark blue-black temporary tattoo without the use of harmful chemicals like PPD, which is commonly found in some black henna products and can cause allergic reactions.

Natural and Cosmetic-Compliant

All Jagua Henna products are 100% natural and free from synthetic additives. Our products comply with European cosmetic regulations (EC1223/2009), ensuring they meet strict safety standards for use on skin. This guarantees that each product has undergone careful evaluation to confirm it is safe, reliable, and of high quality.

Allergic Reactions and Sensitive Skin

While Jagua is safe for most people, some individuals may be sensitive to natural ingredients, just as some people react to certain fruits. People with fruit allergies, extremely sensitive skin, eczema, or G6PD deficiency are advised to exercise caution.

To prevent potential irritation or allergic reactions, we always recommend performing a patch test before applying a full tattoo:

  1. Apply a small amount of Jagua on a clean patch of skin.
  2. Wait 15–120 minutes and observe for any signs of redness, itching, or irritation.
  3. If no reaction occurs within a week, the tattoo can be safely applied.
