How we make Jagua: from tree to tattoo

All of our Jagua products start with 100% natural and fresh Jagua fruits. So how do we go from tree to tattoo? The journey begins in Colombia, where the fruits are harvested and processed, and ends in the Netherlands, where we transform the raw ingredients into safe, cosmetic-certified Jagua products.

Sustainable Fruit Sourcing

Only the top 50% of ripe Jagua fruits are selected to ensure the richest stain while maintaining biodiversity. Sustainable fruit sourcing is a priority—so everyone benefits, from tree to tattoo.

Safe Collection Practices

Jagua trees can grow up to 30 meters tall, making fruit collection challenging. We only work with suppliers who guarantee safe harvesting, using smaller trees or proper climbing equipment. This ensures both worker safety and consistent quality for our products.

Preservation and Reforestation

Jagua trees are native to Colombia but are often undervalued and cut down. By purchasing Jagua fruits, farmers are incentivized to preserve existing trees. Together, we also study and replant Jagua trees, supporting long-term sustainability.

Protecting Biodiversity

At least 50% of the fruits are left on the trees for animals, birds, and insects. Preserving Jagua trees helps reduce the impact of climate change and supports local biodiversity.

Extra Income and Fair Payment

We buy fresh fruits directly from local farmers and pay fair prices per kilogram. Every purchase supports families, sustains communities, and contributes to the preservation of native trees.

Processing the Fruits

Once harvested, the fruits are carefully processed in our facility:

  1. Selection: Only the best unripe fruits are used.
  2. Cleaning: Fruits are washed to remove impurities.
  3. Dehydration: Fruits are sliced and dehydrated in ovens.
  4. Quality Checks: Any fruits with brown spots are removed to maintain high-quality powder.
  5. Sieving: The dried slices are ground into a fine, UV-sterilized powder.
  6. Sterilization: UV lights reduce microbiological load, ensuring safety.

Our factory follows strict manufacturing standards, with quality checks at every step.

Cosmetic Certification

All Jagua Henna products are tested in independent laboratories in the Netherlands. Each batch is analyzed for chemical composition, toxicology, and compliance with European Cosmetic Regulations (EC No 1223/2009).

Thanks to these measures, you can enjoy your Jagua tattoo completely worry-free, knowing it is natural, safe, and ethically produced.
