How to store jagua products

In this guide, we'll explain how you can store your jagua products. Storing your jagua products properly helps you to maintain the longevity and potency of the dye. Whether you're a seasoned henna artist or a beginner, understanding the nuances of storage can make all the difference in quality of your designs. Dive in as we explore how to keep your jagua products in tip-top shape.

Why good storage is important

Jagua is highly sensitive to external factors like heat, light, and air. When jagua is stored at room temperature or in an environment with frequent temperature fluctuations, it quickly loses its staining capacity due to oxidation (a natural process). This degradation is expedited when jagua is exposed to warm temperatures. The result? Lighter, less vibrant tattoos that fade sooner than expected.

Jagua is a natural product

Jagua is derived from the Genipa americana fruit. Being a natural product, it's free from synthetic additives and chemicals. Proper care is needed to maintain its quality. Learn more about jagua:

Freeze your Jagua

To maintain the staining capacity of your Jagua products, we advise storing it at a constant temperature of -20 degrees Celsius (-4 degrees Fahrenheit) or below. This can extend the shelf life up to 1.5 years. This applies to all of our Jagua gels, Jagua juice and Jagua powders.

Freezing is a safe and efficient way to slow down the molecular breakdown and oxidation process. This preserves the dye's strength and ensuring that it maintains its rich, bluish-black staining capability.

Thawing and refreezing

So how can you use Jagua when it's frozen? Jagua can be thawed and refrozen as many times as you want without losing its effectiveness. Simply take your product out of the freezer and let it thaw in room temperature. Take the amount you need, squeeze excess air out of the packaging and freeze the remaining amount right away. The time it needs to thaw is short enough to prevent it from losing its quality.

Storing Jagua in the refrigerator

Don't have access to a freezer? Keeping jagua in a cool environment, like a refrigerator, slows down the process of molecular degradation and oxidation, helping to preserve the dye's potency.

While the freezer offers an even longer preservation method, storing jagua in the refrigerator is a good compromise that extends its shelf life beyond what it would be at room temperature. However, it's essential to ensure that the jagua is sealed tightly to prevent moisture and contaminants from affecting its quality.
